Choir is an integral part of the CSI worship service.Though the worship started in 1907 at Kumplampoika, there was no Church choir until 1965.The leader of the worship used to begin songs.In the year 1959, Rev C.T Mathew who was the Head master of the school at that time together with Mrs. Accamma Koshy, a great singer who got transferred to the school, organised a carol service in the school.Rev. C.T Mathew used his organ for the Carol service in 1959 in the Church too.The same was done in 1960 also.After the transfer of C.T Mathew in 1961, Mrs. Accamma Koshy took the responsibility of training Sunday school children for Christmas Carols.In the mean time,Smt. Marykutty teacher, Punnamootil joined the school and she, being a talented singer assisted Mrs. Accamma Koshy to train Sunday School children in singing.

The Church choir was formed in 1965.

During the time of Rev. T.V Kuruvila, a group 20 male members dedicated themselves to form the First choir and Sri P.K Cherian, Puthuchira Puthuparambil was the choir master. The uniform - white surplice only.

Those who contributed to the uniform were

(iv) P.E Abraham Puthuchia Puthuparambil
(v) P.K Cherian Puthuchia Puthuparambil

In 1968, Kolanjikombil, Annievilla Sri. K.M Mathen donated the pedal organ to the Church.Initially an organist from Ranni offered his service in our Church.Later Sri. Kurian Samuel Sasthamcoikal (later became a priest - Rev. Kurian Samuel) learned organ playing and helped in choir. In 1968 Sri P.S Koshy(Sr.) donated the processional cross to the choir.

In 1974, during the time of Rev. G.P Mathews the choir got red robe.The expense was met by the Church commitee.In 1977-78, choir members bought a mic set for the Church using Rs 2000 collected during the Christmas carol service.In 1981-82, the organization was able to form a fund.A joint Christmas carol was performed at our Church in 1981 with the participation of various choirs.

Ladies and girls started joining the choir from 1980 onwards.

Due to some undesirable situations in the Church, the choir was not functioning as it should have.From 1991 onwards, the change in the situation brought the choir to the normal functioning.As most songs sung in our worship were Lyrics, Rev. Sabu K Cherian took the initiative to include Hymns too even though our congregation was not familiar with hymns then. So Rev. Sabu K Cherian persuaded Mrs. Accamma Koshy, a well trained and talented singer to teach the choir Hymns and Lyrics.Now the congregation sings with much ease!

The choir was in need of a sound system.But due to lack of fund the choir had to manage with the existing one.In 1999 Mrs.Accamma Koshy went to U.S.A and bearing this need in mind, she approached 3 ex-students of CMS H.S Kumplampoika and they contributed Rs.35000/- towards it.Shri. K.V Thomas,Shri Koshy George and Puthuchira Shri P.J Skaria - an amplifier and 4 Four sided mikes were purchased.

After the time of Rev.Kurian Samuel, several talented people from other C.S.I parishes helped the choir in organ playing and song training, but later we had to find suitable persons from our Parish itself - Anish Padickamannil (now Rev. Anish George), Mr. Cherry Abraham, Mr. Shijino S John and Mr. Aadarsh Anu Thomas.They deserve very special mention !!

The first electronic organ was donated by Dr. Jacob Benjamin and Mikku c/o Abraham Thomas, Puthuchira in 1997.

Achievements

In 1977-78, our Choir won the first place in the song competition held at Y.M.C.A. In 1979-80, our Choir won the second place in the song competition held at Y.M.C.A.In 1980-81, our Choir won the first place in the song competition held at Y.M.C.A.

Over the years, our Choir members have been receiving more prizes in district level Choir competitions.
